WO-Be There Next Time!

The Word of Beer meeting turned out to be extremely enjoyable. We were joined by USF Sarasota-Manatee’s rowing club members.

WOB  has an interesting arrangement with restaurants near by. They do not server food. If you want to eat there, you have to place a phone order with Casa D Pizza or Pita Republic. A small tip for future visitors: If you ever order from Casa D Pizza, never order the buffalo chicken wings. I placed an order last night at 7:00 p.m. Fifty minutes later a delivery girl shows up with my cold wings wanting full price for them. No way I was going to pay for late wings. What a bummer!

Just to clarify, this does not have anything to do with WOB. They were great!

Enable Email Preview Pane

Google labs recently launched the Gmail preview pane. Luckily for us any feature available through Gmail extends to the USF email interface. Today I will show you how to enable the preview pane.

Here is how to do it:

  • Sign it to your USF email by visiting mail.usf.edu
  • Select the option’s icon from the top right corner and choose “Labs”
  • In the search box type “preview pane”

  • Enable the preview pane and save the changes
  • Go back to your inbox
  • Notice a popup on the left side right below the options’ icon. You can use the button to toggle between the preview pane and the standard view
  • Click the button to switch to the preview pane
  • Enjoy the new look

USF Application Portal

Not many students know about the many wonderful technology offerings at USF.  Today I would like to focus on one of them. I am referring to the USF Application Portal. The portal offers many applications published via a Citrix server. All of these are made possible by the “Student Technology Fee.”

Navigate with your favorite web browser to http://apps.usf.edu . You will need your netID in order to register. Follow the “Enroll” link to register.

Sign in and agree to the terms of use. You will receive a confirmation page.

After registering, go back to the main page and follow the sign-in link. You will then be presented with the portal’s sign-in window.

Enter your netID and password. The next screen will show all the applications available via the portal.

These folders are jam pack with many useful applications. In particular the Adobe CS4 and Adobe CS5 folders.

In here you will find applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and much more.

Good luck!

Follow-up

Dear Members,
I just wanted to send out a follow-up email to inform everyone that we did send out flowers to Professor Ludwig. She received them this week. We are still waiting on a charity.

Condolences to Professor Lodwig’s Husband

Dear Members;
As you may already know our network club advisor, Professor Lodwig, has lost her husband to bout with cancer. With this email I wanted to take this time to inform everyone on what’s been going on concerning paying our condolences to professor Lodwig’s husband.
This past week we have been waiting to hear of a charity Professor Lodwig would like for us to contribute to in honor of her husband. We thought a charity would be a pretty good idea in lieu flowers. Flowers will still be a great pick me up just to show we’re thinking of her though. We are expecting to learn of the charity of her choice this upcoming week, if not shortly after.
For those who would like to contribute to the donation, bring with you to our next meeting. Ana and I will be working on setting up a club account and getting a Pay Pal set up so that you can make your contributions there as well. Look for more details on that throughout the week. Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns.
I want to thank you all for being patient as we’re trying to get this together, and thank you in advance for your contributions. If anyone has any other ideas they are more than welcomed.

Condolences for Dr. Lodwig

Dear Members,

We deeply regret to inform you Dr. Lodwig’s husband, John, passed away on June 28th. The funeral will be held tomorrow in Illinois. Our group will be sending her flowers or donations to a charity when we learn which one is preferred. Jessica Daniels, our treasurer, will be sending an email next week for those who want to contribute.

If you would like to send a private condolence, you can do so at the website of Farley Funeral Home in Venice or send a card to them and they will forward it to her. Farley Funeral Home will be holding a memorial service for friends and family in Florida once a date is determined.

I will send out another email when our group has sent flowers/donations to charity. If you would like to contact me, please feel free to do so.

Best,
Ana
