Jackson Hewitt Employment Opportunity
Jackson Hewitt has full-time seasonal jobs for IT students! Please see the message from Ben Wolski, a USFSM graduate, and now a Jackson Hewitt employee, regarding the opportunities.
Please note the following two caveats:
• Seasonal testers might not get to test any of the next-gen products or systems this season
• Seasonal testers will not get to write automated tests (VS Test Professional does not include this feature).
_______________________________
Life around Jackson Hewitt is revving up for a very interesting and exciting season. We started developing our next-gen tax preparation platform, which is scheduled for an internal pilot in the Fall! So we’re going to need some really good help maintaining our current application and systems. We’re hiring!
Please inform your students that Jackson Hewitt has seasonal positions available on the Quality Assurance team. My colleague and I will be conducting interviews in a few weeks and would love for some bright students to throw their hats in the ring. It’s a full-time 40 hour/week position scheduled to last approximately 7 months. The seasonal testers will gain hands-on experience with the SDLC of mobile apps, web applications, legacy client-based apps and maybe even some cutting-edge web applications hosted in Windows Azure! Responsibilities will include systematic execution of manual and automated test plans as well as exploratory testing. Seasonal testers will also be responsible creating and modifying test documentation.
But that doesn’t really capture the essence of the opportunity here…we’re diligently trying to update our testing process. There’s a huge push from management to develop and execute load tests and automated UI tests (my obsession at the moment), as well as rethink our entire approach to manual testing. The company hired a professional QA trainer/consultant to assess current practices, make recommendations and offer 12 hours of training (every morning this week) to the entire team (approx. 30 people). So management’s serious. We’re making a big move forward in the near future. I have already installed Visual Studio Test Professional on two of the machines that will be used by the incoming seasonal testers. These are the first installations of VS Test Professional at Jackson Hewitt. I am hoping to blaze a new trail with our seasonal testers this year. However, I have a ton of other responsibilities, so I am really looking for strong candidates that, in addition to the responsibilities outlined above, can learn with me and help design a new system for manual testing with this new tool. Initially, the scope will be limited to my components and maybe a few others, but if the tool proves useful, management wants to adopt it for the entire team. Anybody with a strong understanding of both test design and Microsoft Test Manager (part of VS Test Professional) will be very valuable to the organization going forward. Prior experience with software testing is “preferred” according to the attached posting, but is not required for this position. I would be very happy to find a quick learner with an strong aptitude for technology and solid writing skills.
